Windows Vista System Requirements

Microsoft has designated 2 levels of support for the launch of Windows Vista. These 2 refer to the levels of hardware that are compatible with Windows Vista to varying degrees. These levels are designated Windows Vista Capable and Windows Vista Premium.

Windows Vista Capable PC
Compatible with Windows Vista, means that your current hardware meets the absolute minimum requirements to install and run Windows Vista.

  • A modern processor (at least 800MHz).
  • 512 MB of system memory.
  • A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 with at least 64 MB of RAM.

PC with Windows Vista Premium Ready
A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC, it means that your hardware meets the minimum requirements to use the additional functions Windows Vista improves the user experience. In other words, the higher minimum requirements will improve system performance and improve media advanced as Windows Aero. These are the recommended minimum requirements.

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64)).
  • 1 GB of system memory.
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum), Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
  • 40 GB capacity hard drive with 15 GB of free space.
  • DVD-ROM.
  • Audio output capability.
  • Internet access capability.

Abstract
The greatest difference between Windows Vista and Windows XP are system memory and video requirements. Windows XP will work properly the video card with 128 MB and 1 GB of system RAM. It is ironic that must be considered the minimum to install Windows Vista.

Windows Vista is much more graphics-intensive Windows XP and creates an experience richer media. Of course, these requirements increase the cost of hardware needed to run Windows Vista. For those who have been going there feet in front of video RAM and are the creators of media and PC gamers to blame for the extra costs.

If you've read some of my articles another computer or guides already know I never recommend using minimum hardware advertising. In reading the words "minimum requirements", the minimum is what you get. Anytime you upgrade a PC to the recommended minimum requirements of the results will always be a disappointment.
With this in mind, my recommendations Installation of Windows Vista are as follows.

  • 2 GHz +, 64 bit or Duel Core processor (Intel Core Duo or AMD X2 for games)
  • 2 GB + to match system RAM
  • 256 MB +, ATI or nVidia graphics card (not integrated into the motherboard)
  • 40 GB + hard drive (15 GB free space required to install Vista)
  • CD-DVD ROM
  • Other hardware needed should be obvious.

Please note that the integrated video on the motherboard not recommended. Integrated video uses system RAM which robs your system resources and increases the memory requirements. There are also add-on video cards that use system RAM and have very little memory you have of their own. When buying a supplement to the video card memory read the specifications carefully.

Windows Vista runs smoothly on a PC meeting these recommendations. Most users will only need to upgrade your video card and adding memory System RAM. Windows Vista is compatible with most of the same hardware that Windows XP supports. Motherboards, Modems, Ethernet, hard drives and other common hardware use today are compatible. About the Author
