The choice of a classic for the weekend
I had always been a car freak as a kid my bedroom walls had been covered with models of the day, but mostly with photos of the beautiful little open-topped sports car racing through the British countryside.
Now, in adulthood I thought my chances of re-enactment of those scenes were few or none. However, for a birthday gift year, my wife had contacted a company classic car hire and not know which model to get just had bought me a voucher for a weekend at any particular hire I would like.
This was the brilliant idea to hire a classic car for the weekend would be fantastic with a pair of twin nights in a hotel would make a very pleasant trip. I went to the rental company's website and rolled his eyes possibly four of the greatest cars ever made, which would be a difficult choice.
First they had a great little Austin Healey 3000 available for rent. As a model 1965 in British racing green which was the car that I had anticipated driving every year. After seeing this car in various races during the sixties, the possibility hire one of these engines would be a privilege inglorious, and will surely be memorable for the rest of my days.
Before he surrendered to the signing for the rental of a car which also made a concerted effort to look at the other classics available for rent. If I had thought that the first option was bowled me over I saw the second car gave me even more of a shock, a superb example of the legendary Jaguar E-Type, soft top, of course.
This revolutionary car was transformed the sports car market, its engine, handling, and above all, his style had this magnificent car ahead of its time. So much so that including Enzo Ferrari, the creator of the Ferrari motor company had called him "the most beautiful car ever made '.
The car today is not yet close to the current date Ferraris and Porches, in many ways is superior. Being able to hire one of these cars that remained open for a pleasure I never expected they have.
Also had a Mercedes Benz 280 SL, this cute little car can still be seen as cold today with a classic style that will never be surpassed. The fact of the execution and handling were clearly of another generation was not important, not about going fast in an open top classic, is enjoy your surroundings and society, anyway go faster than fifty convertible just ruined your hair.
Finally, there was veteran of the pack, the Triumph TR3A, which took until 1962 was also looking to die, and their performance is also acceptable in the modern world. Being the first car braked serial disk, at least you know it will be safe and with a 0-60 in twelve seconds, its acceleration is not all that bad. But as I said before, not everything is about performance.
These cars were from another era, although still have the dropped jaw looks good and the ability to turn heads. The choice of which one to hire for my weekend was very hard, the Austin and Mercedes both had appeal, as did the small victories, but it was not really. Who could reject the opportunity to hire a classic E-Type for the weekend?
To drive in all that has been hailed as the best aspect of classic cars ever, the flagship car of my generation was too good an opportunity to pass up. I want to hire the Jaguar and visit the English countryside in style, My only concern now is the time.
