Anyone out there remember the last time you saw an NHL goalie play without a face mask?
Ed Giacomin saw in the old Madison Square Garden in the sixties. The Rangers were playing the Leafs and stopped Frank Mahovalich in the closing seconds on a breakaway to preserve the win. You should have seen unmasked the porters live, to realize how crazy they were.
Does anyone remember Bernie Parent of the Philadelphia Flyers who played in the s. '70 'Was wearing Jason's hockey mask type. In February 1979, the race of the parents was interrupted by a run of eye injury in a game against the Rangers New York. A walking stick went into the hole of his mask right eye causing permanent damage to your vision. The incident led many NHL goalies moving away glass fiber into the cage mask and helmet style used today.
