Awesome dogs of the Armed Forces of the United States

After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1942, the U.S. Army joined with the American Kennel Club to set the dogs for the Defense. The American Kennel Club dog owners hired to donate dogs to the military quality. Quartermasters Corps was responsible supplies, food service and materials management. On 13 March 1942, the Army Quartermaster Corps took charge of turning these animals into soldiers. The U.S. Marines also trained handlers and canines to be soldiers in the Pacific during World War II.

At first there were more 300 breeds of dogs accepted into the program, but the final list was reduced to German shepherds, Belgian Sheepdogs, Doberman Pinscher, Collie Farm and Giant Schnauzer. Of the 19,000 dogs selected for the program between 1942 and 1945, 45% were rejected. At first, civilian volunteers trained recruits, but after the first center open training in Front Royal, Virginia, training was conducted by the Quartermasters Corps soldiers for the Army and Marines trained their own dogs.

The training lasted 12 weeks. It started with basic obedience and advanced training in gas masks, muzzles, vehicles military and firearms. After completing basic training, went to the dogs in training in specific duties.

Guard Dogs: Walking with short strap and drivers warned his growling and barking. They were always on patrol with their handlers.

Scout or patrol dogs: These dogs made the duties of guard dogs, but were trained to work in silence. Were detected enemy snipers and ambushes. These soldiers saved the lives of canine many of its drivers.

Messenger Dogs: These dogs require extreme loyalty, as they used to carry messages silently back and forth between the two drivers.

Mine Dogs: These dogs were trained to find trip wires and mines. There were 140 dogs and dogs of mines during the Second World War, but found that the dogs had trouble finding mine during combat.

Most of the dogs were trained as guards. Of the 9,300 dogs they were trained, 3.174 were used by the Coast Guard. These dogs were used to protect the coast, the defense of the harbor and the protection of industrial plants and airports.

In 1944, the military began using dogs for fighting. Guard dogs in fighting the enemy soldiers could detect up to 1,000 meters away. To alert your driver, without giving away their positions harden dogs, and hair of the dog in the back stood up. Over the years, the military Working dogs have been used not only in WWII, but Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and are currently deployed in Iraq. It should be noted in Vietnam, canine dogs of war up to 10,000 lives saved.

One of the first war memorials erected on the beach of Asan in Guam in 1944. Transferred the U.S. Naval Base on the island in 1994. This particular monument is dedicated to the Dobermans that served with the Marines during World War II II. The inscription on the memorial statue reads … "always faithful".
